GDC Portfolio Project

Posted on | June 10, 2009 | 3 Comments

Unfortunately the building industry is going through a period of massive contraction right now.  The economy is bad, creditors aren’t lending, great firms are shutting their doors, and people are losing their jobs in droves.  Some of those people are my friends.  Which is why I am starting a new initiative, called the GreenDesignCollective Porfolio Project, where fellow unemployed designers are invited to host their portfolios on the GDC for free for a period of up to a year.  They will get their own unique sub-domain, plus a user name and password, so they can upload independently.  Currently I am only opening this up to friends, but if others are interested, leave me a comment or email me and we’ll see what we can do.

My hope for the GreenDesignCollective is that it become a real “collective”, and encouraging a community of designers on the site with this Project is a step in that direction.  Eventually I would like for the site to be learning platform for green design principles, not just for the public, but for designers as well.  It’s going to take a lot of innovation and ingenuity to get through this rough period, but I think we’re better off working together than apart.

I am here in san Francisco. I graduated with a M.Arch in 2007 – worked at SOM here for 16 months, got laid off. I have had 6 interviews but no offers. I am now doing pro-Bono work for a low carbon material manufacturere that needs a demo house designed.
I am interested in posting my portfolio.

    thanks
