The GDC Unemployment Tour of the West

After learning of another job I did NOT get last week, I’ve decided to take this show on the road. I’ll soon be leaving Los Angeles to go up the coast; I’ll be visiting friends and investigating the state of the economy, particularly with regards to the building industry, while looking for work myself.
In the in-between posts, I’ll be talking about featured designers on this site, as well as trying to highlight ways of living “greener”. Anything in particular I should write about? Drop me a line here or email me at emily@greendesigncollective.com.
Today, in preparation for my trip, I’m getting Dorothy tuned up and “smogged”, which is California-speak for smog checked. The state of California has long been a leader in the fight against greenhouse-gas causing auto emissions, but only last week did the EPA grant the state the waiver it had been seeking to set tougher restrictions, which paves the way for many other states to also revise their auto emission standards. This is great news and – frankly – long overdue, since CA’s standards were written in 2002 but permission to enact them was denied by the Bush administration: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/01/business/energy-environment/01webwaiver.html?ref=us.
Will Dorothy pass? What impact will her age have? Stay tuned…
