What is home?
I just got done moving out of an apartment in Downtown Los Angeles that I occupied for two years. I managed to purge about 80% of my furniture and at least 50% of my stuff. A long and exhausting struggle to move my remaining belongings into storage really made me start to think about why [...]
Long, full day
I’ve gotten all angles of the Dwell on Design conference today, including a foray into a conversation led by Dwell editor Sam Grawe and an unexpected visit into a class presented by the AIA LA as part of their Mobius content. Good stuff. Final thoughts tomorrow after I’ve had time to digest it all!
Inside an Airstream Trailer
Currently writing to you from inside an Airstream trailer! Lots of fun stuff here today….if the Airstream’s a rockin’ don’t come knockin’…
First Impressions
Some of the first things I saw here today include some “organic” furniture, a solar powered play house, and felt plant boxes:
Live from Dwell on Design
I’ll be visiting the combined Dwell on Design / Mobius LA conference on Friday on behalf of the GDC and Archinect.com. I’ll be live-blogging here all day about what I see, and as I tend to gravitate naturally towards more “sustainable” products or projects, please leave a comment if you think there is something in [...]
Packing material
Previously known as “bank and phone statements from prior to 2004″. Shred it, bag it, reuse it for packing plates and dishes. It’s that easy!

And 22% of products making [...]
All I wanted was a pair of headphones
If Apple’s generic headphones were made any better than a Chevy Cobalt, I wouldn’t have this problem. But I have to get new headphones on a regular basis and it’s frustrating. Especially when you consider the packaging: So many of our electronics products come in this ridiculous “theft-proof” hard plastic packaging; and then you try [...]
Make recycling make sense
Full disclosure: I love my 15″ MacBook Pro. Knock on wood, I’ve not had any major problems with it in the 3 years that I’ve had it. And, even though I’ve seen some things about the batteries that freak me out a bit, I don’t regret my purchase of it. It’s done everything I have [...]
Aktivhaus!
From Treehugger comes news of a “passive house” with solar hot water collectors and a heat pump that actually generates more energy than the house consumes. A typical passive house is designed with lots of insulation and less windows, in order to absorb heat and trap it in, thereby conserving solar energy and reducing the [...]
